FAQs and things to know prior to attending Nova Dermatology

I’d like to make an appointment…
Please go to our How To Make An Appointment page. There are a few ways to make appointments based on your concern and if you are a new or current patient.
-
Our books are always open, however our wait times can vary based on the seriousness of the concern.
The practice is very busy. We do our best to see everyone as quickly as possible.
Depending on the urgency of your concern, you could be waiting anywhere from being seen tomorrow (extremely urgent) to up to 12 months (non-urgent eg. general skin check).
Whilst we cannot promise an earlier appointment, we do our best to get patients in on cancellations where this is possible.
-
You need a referral to see a dermatologist for any medical conditions, including medical based laser treatments eg. scarring.
Specialist doctors often require a referral from a GP. At Nova Dermatology it is a requirement to be seen by the doctor for a medical condition.
It is also beneficial for you to get a referral as appointments, procedures and some treatments have rebates from Medicare.
You do not need a referral for any cosmetic treatment eg. injectables or anti-ageing laser. These have no associated rebates.
In some cases lasers treat certain medical concerns. These can have associated rebates. Please call us if you are not sure which category you fall under. You may need an appointment with the dermatologist to determine if you are suitable for rebates.
-
All dermatology appointments, treatments and procedures are claimed through Medicare.
Your private health fund is only used for private hospital procedures. In relation to Nova Dermatology, this is only relevant if you are having Mohs Micrographic Surgery in the private hospital.
-
We are a private practice with set pricing. There are out of pocket expenses.
We do not offer bulk billing, concession discounts nor do we participate in compensation billing.
-
We service DVA patients with gold and white cards.
If you hold a white card, please seek approval for coverage of your dermatological concern prior to your initial appointment. It is often necessary for you to submit a form to receive DVA approval. This approval needs to be stated on your file in the practice.

Please see our Contact page for our address and interactive map.
We have onsite parking for patients only, however parking is limited.
